It's official: Amazon is coming to 'straya

After months - even years - of rumours and speculation, Amazon has confirmed that it will launch an online retail presence in Australia. In a statement provided to media, Amazon said bringing a retail offering to Australia is the next step after launching Amazon Web Services locally in 2012, and the Australian Kindle store in 2013.

"The next step is to bring a retail offering to Australia, and we are making those plans now. We are excited to bring thousands of new jobs to Australia, millions of dollars in additional investment, and to empower small Australian businesses through Amazon Marketplace," said Amazon."

"We are optimistic that by focusing on the things we believe customers value most - low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery - over time we'll earn the business of Australian customers."

Amazon has yet to confirm a launch date for its online retail presence.

Earlier this year, Amazon expanded the number of products it has available in Australia with the launch of Amazon Prime Video, touting exclusive content such as The Grand Tour, The Man in the High Castle and the upcoming American Gods.
