Virgin Mobile today announced an aggressive bonus aimed squarely at Vodafone’s mid-tier plans, offering a bonus 1GB of data on all plans starting from $40 per month.
This new bonus comes into effect just as Virgin Mobile’s ‘double data’ offer finishes, and helps to maintain a slight advantage in inclusions over Vodafone when comparing very similar products.
For example, an iPhone 5s costing about $50 a month on a post-paid plan comes with 500MB data with Vodafone, or 1.5GB of data with Virgin after adding in the bonus. Likewise, a Galaxy Note 3 is also better value with Virgin up to about $70 per month. After this point, Virgin doesn’t fair as well next to Vodafone’s unlimited Red plans.
Virgin will also add the extra data on monthly SIM-only plans of $40 or more. This keeps the telco close to rival Vodafone when examining comparable products, though Vodafone remains slightly ahead.
In related news, Virgin Mobile has also cut the price of the Sony Xperia Z1 on plans. It will waive all monthly handset repayments, making it $0 on a $50 per month plan.
