A phone battery that recharges in 30-seconds?

If you ask anyone what they would change about their smartphone, battery life if sure to come up in the conversation. Since the introduction of smartphones we’ve moaned about having to charge our phones frequently, often reminiscing about the good old days when old Nokia handsets lasted a week between charges,

But what if this process was much, much faster? Would we care so much about needing to charge our phones if the process was as fast as filling a bath with water?

An Israeli company called StoreDot is working on exactly this, and have a prototype for a smartphone battery which can be recharged from flat to full in about 30-seconds. The battery is packed full of biological semiconductors in the form of peptides, and though this means the battery is currently enormous by smartphone standards, StoreDot is confident it should have the size down and the batteries for sale by 2016.

It will be interesting to see whether a battery that recharges quickly also burns through its power quickly too, though if StoreDot partners with a major electronics manufacturer, this is something they can work together to fine-tune, we’re sure.
