Sony has announced that its newest Xperia release, the XA1 Ultra, is now available on plans in an exclusive deal with Vodafone.
Starting today, you can pick up the Ultra for just $5 per month, on Vodafone’s $40 Red Plan over 24 months. The XA1 Ultra is available on ten Vodafone personal postpaid plans, from the above $40 plan, through to the $120 MyMix Red Data and MyMix Red Global options.
You can grab the 32GB XA1 Ultra in black either online, or from Vodafone’s retail stores. The device itself features a borderless, edge-to-edge six-inch full HD screen, Android 7.0 Nougat, an octa-core processor and a 2700mAh battery with quick charging support, plus expandable memory up to 256GB.
Vodafone’s $40 Red Plan includes unlimited national talk and text, and 2GB of data (1GB standard, plus 1GB of monthly bonus data). Sign up before June 30, and you’ll also get free access fees for your first month on this plan.
The XA1 Ultra: big screen, great camera
While the XA1 Ultra's initial attraction is definitely its near bezel-free display, Sony is also talking up the handset’s high-end camera inclusions. The 16-megapixel front camera features Optical Image Stabilisation, a smart ‘selfie’ flash, and ‘Hand Shutter’ activation.
In the rear, you’ll find a 23-megapixel camera with Hybrid Autofocus, ‘superfast’ launch-to-capture times of less than one second, and great lowlight capabilities. Basically, you’re getting premium smartphone camera features, without the premium smartphone price tag.
The XA1 Ultra is the big brother to Sony’s recently-released Xperia XA1, which features a smaller five-inch screen and a $399 retail price. However, while the Ultra is now available on Vodafone’s 24-month postpaid plans, the smaller XA1 can only be picked up directly from Sony, or through stores such as JB Hi-Fi.
