The ASUS MeMO Pad 8 is available in Australia from today for a RRP of AU$329 from Harvey Norman. It’s an 8-inch Android 4.2 tablet with an LED-backlit 1200x800 display that should offer great colours and tones with fair pixel density.
The MeMO Pad 8 is the third of ASUS’s MeMO line to be released in Australia and will sit in between the MeMO Pads 7 and 10 in both size and price. It will be available in White, Pink and Grey.
It has 16GB of onboard storage and a MicroSD slot for expanding that a further 64GB. Usage life should last a solid 9 hours of video playback thanks to the 3950mAh battery.
The quad-core 1.6GHz is backed up by 1GB of RAM and should be able to handle just about anything you throw at it with adequate speed. It’s also quite light, weighing in at just 350g, which is about the same as an iPad mini.
Does it stand out?
We like the sound of the MeMO Pad 8 for its specs-to-price comparison. For $329 you get that LED-backlit display which, while not 1080p, does boast a resolution above 720p HD. You also get a quad-core 1.6GHz CPU which, as we said, should handle itself very well.
The 16GB of onboard storage is often just 8GB in a tablet this price, plus you have the added option of expanding that memory through the MicroSD if you so choose.
